Solidarity with Ukraine

The project to support Deaf refugees from Ukraine simply had to be done. Already on the first of March 2022 we adapted our IT system, restructured administrative staff and hired the first Ukrainian Sign Language interpreters. First calls were answered and first translations performed. In the following months, we managed to establish cooperation with organizations from the US, which supported our project. The below numbers speak for themselves. Until 31st of March 2024 over 60822 translations were done totalling more than 8564 hours. When our main donor – US International Rescue Committee – has terminated its financial contribution we have not been able to raise our part to cover the whole cost of service. It awaits possible reactivation with the assistance from Poland’s Government, or international organizations. Ukrainian community has filed a petition to Minister of Family, Labour and Social Policy to work with a view to reactivate the translation for Deaf Ukrainians. The petition can still be signed.

At the moment we provide the service on a 24/7 model, the translations are completely free for Deaf people. In the first three months we made more than 3,000 translations.
